Do you want straighter teeth? Want to avoid traditional braces? Well, Dr. Ken Yasuhara understands how you feel, which is why he offers Invisalign at his Honolulu, HI, office.

More About Invisalign

Invisalign is composed of custom-made clear aligners that are made to fit your upper and lower teeth. The aligners function the same way traditional braces work, by applying pressure on each tooth so that it moves into its proper position. Your Honolulu dentists create your custom aligners using a specialized computer software.

There are several benefits to Invisalign.

Here are a few:

  • Oral Hygiene: Because Invisalign is a removable appliance, you will be able to clean your teeth more thoroughly than if you have traditional metal braces. Make sure to brush your teeth twice a day and floss at least once.
  • Dietary Limitations: Traditional braces prevent you from eating your favorite foods, like taffy apples or corn, but that's not an issue with Invisalign. You can eat whatever you want because the aligners you wear are removable.
  • Comfortable: Invisalign aligners are thin, flexible aligners that don't irritate the soft tissue in your mouth, unlike metal braces.
  • Discreet: Traditional metal braces can be distracting, especially if you're a teenager or an adult. Invisalign is transparent, so no one will notice if you have braces.

Invisalign's clear plastic aligners are flexible and great for if you need to straighten your teeth and don't want anyone to know you're wearing braces, unlike traditional metal braces. You do, however, need to keep them on for a minimum of 20 to 22 hours a day.

You can take them off if you want to eat, brush your teeth or floss. Some people like to take their clear aligners off for special events, like weddings and birthdays.

Did you know that you can correct your misaligned smile without wearing metal braces? If you've been putting off orthodontic treatment clear alignersbecause you don't want to wear traditional braces, you may want to consider Invisalign, an innovative system that offers a more discreet option. Honolulu, HI, dentist Dr. Ken Yasuhara discusses the Invisalign treatment process.

Clear aligners do the work of metal

Traditional braces move your teeth with a series of adjustments to wires attached to your teeth. The Invisalign system eliminates the wires and instead uses clear, removable, plastic aligners to gently shift the position of teeth. Wearing the aligners daily exerts constant pressure needed to realign your smile. At the beginning of your treatment, you'll receive a series of aligner trays and will swap one set for another every two weeks.

Your aligners will be custom designed for you in our Honolulu office. The Invisalign software uses CAD/CAM technology and combines digital impressions, images and X-rays to create a 3D computerized image of your mouth.

Invisalign offers a more aesthetically pleasing option

The metal-free appearance of the aligner trays is one of the most popular benefits of Invisalign. Because they're constructed of clear plastic, they won't be noticeable when you smile or talk.

Nearly everyone can benefit from Invisalign

No matter what your age, you're probably a good candidate for Invisalign. It's an excellent solution for crowding or spacing issues or common bite problems, such as overbites, underbites, crossbites and open bites. Invisalign may not be the best option if your orthodontic issues are complicated, but it's an excellent choice for most people who have mild to moderate problems.

Wear and care is easy

You'll wear your aligner trays for about 20 to 22 hours per day. You can take them out when you eat and drink, brush and floss, or for special occasions. After you brush your teeth or eat, you'll simply rinse your trays, then place them back in your mouth.

  • overlapping teeth (overcrowding)
  • gapped teeth (under crowding)
  • misaligned teeth
  • uneven teeth
  • overbite
  • underbite
  • cross bite
  • open bite

Simply remove Invisalign when you perform your oral care routine and rinse your trays before replacing them. You should also remove the trays before eating. While patients should wear their trays for at least 22 hours a day, their design allows them to be comfortable and easy to wear. Invisalign also gives you the freedom to remove it for special events like the prom, an important speech, or even just a quick photo.

Invisalign Treatment in Honolulu, HI
Invisalign treatment depends on patients wearing their trays the recommended amount of time each day. Failing to do so can result in lengthened treatment times. Additionally, patients need to keep their teeth free of tooth decay and gum disease. If one of these conditions occurs during treatment, it could also delay the completion of the treatment and require you to wear your aligner trays for a longer period of time. Most patients switch their trays for the next set in the series about once every two weeks and see their doctor every six weeks for a checkup.

Very few people have perfect, straight teeth; most people have at least a small gap or overlap that they'd like to correct. Whether you invisalignhave major or minor flaws in the alignment of your teeth, Invisalign can give you the smile you've always wanted. Dr. Ken Yasuhara, your dentist in Honolulu, HI, is proud to offer this orthodontic treatment to his patients. He explains the benefits of using Invisalign here:

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a revolutionary alternative to traditional metal braces. If you're familiar with the molded plastic trays used for teeth whitening, you'll have a good idea of what Invisalign braces look like. These lightweight and flexible aligners are custom-made for you, using measurements taken by your Honolulu dentist, and fit flush against your teeth. They work in the same way as traditional braces: gentle pressure moves your teeth into the proper place. The difference is that instead of returning to Dr. Yasuhara's Honolulu dental office every month to have your braces adjusted, you switch out your aligner for the next in a series that reflect the subtle changes in your teeth over time.

What are the advantages of Invisalign?

As your Honolulu dentist will tell you, Invisalign has many benefits. The Invisalign system is:

  • Inconspicuous. The clear plastic blends in so well with your teeth, people may be surprised when they find out you're wearing braces!
  • Comfortable. There are no sharp wires or blunt brackets to deal with, just smooth plastic!
  • Convenient. Although the aligners should be worn between 20 and 22 hours a day, they can easily be removed and stored in a carrying case.
  • Accommodating. While certain foods have to be avoided with traditional braces, you can comfortably eat what you want just by removing your aligners.
